It is hard to imagine a resident of the border area who would seriously take alarming messages that have become tiresome due to the increased visits of drones. It has already been reported that due to frequent warnings from the cellular alert system, which sound at night, some residents of Latgale have become so tired that they started turning off their mobile phones.
Producer Andris Ekis believes that in a crisis, people should receive not dry warnings, but clear instructions. In his opinion, the current alert system in Latvia is outdated and does not reflect reality.
Ekis believes that in modern conditions, the state particularly needs an effective system for informing the population. He argues that in crisis and emergency situations, it is not enough for people to receive formal warnings — they need clear information about what happened, why it is important, and how to act next. He discussed this on the air of the program "Kārtības rullis" on TV24.
Ekis is convinced that such a system can be created quite quickly if responsibilities and communication principles are clearly defined. According to him, the state should select several specially trained individuals who would be responsible for informing the public in emergency situations.
"If I were, say, managing Latvia, I would create such a system very quickly. First of all, I would build it on the decentralization of information. I would find five, six, or seven people whom I would specially train for different crisis situations and give them full access to information," Ekis stated.
He emphasized that these individuals must not only possess information but also know how to communicate effectively with the public — understanding what and how to say to people in difficult moments.
Ekis paid special attention to the quality of the emergency notifications themselves. In his opinion, messages on phones should not be limited to a brief warning about potential danger — for example, about icy conditions or another threat.
"I have also received such messages. There is this very loud signal on Latvian phones. But I would like detailed information to follow it, where I can go and read more: what happened, why it is important, where exactly, and what I should do. This is important to me. We live in such a time," he noted.
