The broader the coalition that forms the government, which will have to work until the elections, the better, said Andris Kulbergs, the representative of the United List (OS) nominated for the post of prime minister, in an interview with TV3.
He believes that five political forces can agree to work in the government - all factions of the Saeima, except for the faction of the 'Latvia First' party.
"Let’s set aside ideological and controversial issues - we will address them in the next Saeima, but for now, let’s agree on a few priority matters that need to be addressed before the elections," Kulbergs said.
He also promised on his behalf and on behalf of the United List (OS) to set aside all previous political grievances between the parties to focus on work.
Kulbergs also promised to personally take responsibility for issues related to the 'Rail Baltica' project and the airline 'airBaltic'. In his opinion, the responsibilities of the Ministry of Transport need to be reviewed as there are many problematic issues in this area, and it is difficult for one ministry to resolve them. Instead, for example, a minister for special assignments could be appointed to work solely on the 'Rail Baltica' sector.
The prime ministerial candidate stated that in the new government, OS would aim to lead the Ministry of Finance, as it is urgent to bring state finances in order and to revise the budget for both this year and the next.
At the same time, Kulbergs noted that the task of optimizing the work of ministries before the elections is unfeasible.
In the program "Morning Panorama" on Latvian television, he stated that he hopes to reach an agreement on joint work with other parties, including the 'Progressives', during negotiations today and tomorrow, so that specific responsibilities can be distributed by the second half of the week.
"I like the pace; I am used to working in crisis conditions," Kulbergs declared, emphasizing that he is not afraid to take on responsibility.
