Cuba Accuses the U.S. of Fabricating Drone Data to Justify Invasion

Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated that reports of Cuban drone strikes against U.S. targets are a fabrication created to justify sanctions pressure and possible aggression against Havana.

Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stated that the U.S. fabricated a case about a threat from Cuban drones to justify economic sanctions and a possible military invasion, Reuters reports.

The minister's statement came after Axios published a report citing classified intelligence data claiming that Cuba acquired over 300 military drones. Havana allegedly discussed plans to use the drones to strike U.S. naval bases in Guantanamo Bay, American warships, and the city of Key West in Florida.

"Cuba does not threaten anyone and does not desire war," Rodriguez noted in his social media post, adding that the country "is preparing to confront external aggression as part of exercising the right to legitimate self-defense recognized by the UN Charter."

American officials point out that the Donald Trump administration views Cuba as a threat due to the development of drone technologies and the presence of Iranian military advisors in Havana.

The new round of accusations between the U.S. and Cuba indicates a continuing deterioration of relations between the countries. Amid discussions of military drones and alleged cooperation between Havana and Iran, tensions in the Caribbean region continue to rise.
