As of today, Riga residents can use the simplified unified phone number of the capital's municipality 1201, which provides prompt communication for both everyday issues and crisis situations, the external communication department of the Riga City Council informed the LETA agency.
The unified phone number coincides with the year of Riga's establishment.
As noted by the municipality, the advantage of a short number is that it is easy to remember, especially in situations where mobile internet service is disrupted and it is impossible to quickly find a regular number.
The Riga municipality has centralized its communication system since July 1 of last year, combining the numbers of several previous information hotlines into a single toll-free number 80001201. Now a short equivalent - 1201 - has been introduced for this number.
Through the unified number of the Riga City Council, information about municipal services can be obtained on working days from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, while reports of incidents in the city are accepted around the clock.
The information hotlines of the municipal enterprises "Rīgas satiksme", "Rīgas ūdens", and "Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks" have not yet been included in the centralized system.
