Lithuania's Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys stated that if necessary, NATO could completely destroy the "little fortress" - Kaliningrad. He said this in an interview with the Swiss publication NZZ.
Speaking about the threats facing the EU, journalists mentioned the Russian enclave – the Kaliningrad region. The head of Lithuania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that NATO must demonstrate the resolve to stop the Russian threat from there.
"We must show the Russians that we can break through their little fortress that they have built in Kaliningrad. NATO has the means to, if necessary, level the Russian air defense bases and missile bases there," he said.
At the same time, Budrys admitted that Lithuania itself clearly lacks air defense resources.
"Russian and Ukrainian drones repeatedly invade our airspace. Also, Russian combat aircraft sometimes fly over Lithuania with their transponders turned off. When this happens, public concern grows," the diplomat said.
He also emphasized that NATO is the most powerful organization ever created.
"In terms of strategic and operational planning, as well as military potential, it has no equal. Trust among allies is the foundation of deterrence. If we even doubt Article 5, then why should our adversary believe in it?" Budrys added.
