General practitioner Irina Dvorkina claims that quinoa is safe in most cases, but there are some negative aspects.
According to the specialist, this product does not have specific allergens. However, for some people, the grain may cause a food allergy.
The doctor also recommends thoroughly rinsing quinoa before cooking, as it contains saponins. These compounds give it a bitter taste and can cause discomfort in the digestive system.
“If you have experienced side effects such as bloating or gastrointestinal disturbances, it is better to rinse the quinoa more thoroughly before cooking or choose a different brand next time,” the doctor advised.
Additionally, Dvorkina noted that some individuals may experience undesirable reactions from the gastrointestinal tract after consuming the grain. This effect is due to the high fiber content in the product.
