An international group of scientists has finally revealed how a 7-day fast affects the human body at the molecular level.
As part of the study, researchers gathered a group of twelve volunteers, all of whom had no health issues. For a week, the participants consumed only drinking water. By the third day of the experiment, they began to show positive changes.
Fasting not only contributes to weight loss but also improves the functioning of internal organs. The levels of thousands of proteins were continuously measured in the volunteers. On average, their body weight decreased by 5.7 kg, and the concentration of proteins, especially in the cells and brain, changed significantly, leading to alterations in metabolism and other processes.
Moreover, fasting reduces the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis, as well as improving the metabolism of the liver and pancreas in both men and women.
However, such a serious undertaking should only be conducted under medical supervision.
