Prisma Store Chain Halts Sales of Israeli Goods

The Finnish S Group, which owns the Prisma supermarket chain, has decided to stop selling goods produced in Israel. As stated by Nina Elomaa, the Director of Sustainable Development of the Finnish Cooperative Union (SOK), in a letter to Ilta-Sanomat, this decision was made back in September.

“In practice, this means that there are no longer any fruits and vegetables from Israel in the assortment. Individual products, such as household appliances, will be sold until stock is depleted,” explained Elomaa.

According to her, there has previously been an extremely limited selection of Israeli products in Prisma stores. However, as noted by the publication, Israeli products such as SodaStream beverages and melons can still be found in the Estonian online store Prisma. Traditionally, citrus fruits remain the main Israeli export product.

SOK also clarified that the decision took into account the plan prepared by the European Commission to suspend the trade provisions of the Association Agreement between the EU and Israel.

“We are closely monitoring the progress of peace negotiations and the policy of the European Union and will adjust our actions as necessary,” stated Elomaa, adding that the company continues to comply with existing agreements and obligations.
