The Paris catacombs have reopened after several months of restoration. To celebrate this event, the museum is launching an advertising campaign aimed at permanently changing the perception of this iconic Parisian landmark.

Posters with humorous slogans challenging Parisians to rethink their lifestyle and relationship with culture have appeared on the streets of Paris. The campaign combines dark humor with cultural heritage.

Often perceived as a tourist curiosity or an unusual attraction, the catacombs now seek to affirm their status as an authentic cultural site. The Paris catacombs now offer visitors an introspective experience, far removed from the traditional museum experience.

The catacombs remain relatively unknown to Parisians in terms of cultural and historical significance. However, they represent a unique, the largest existing ossuary in the world, and hold exceptional heritage: engraved quotes, historical anecdotes, architectural masterpieces, and artistic installations.

They also offer a unique approach to death, far from traditional notions of places of worship: here, bones, which are both testimonies and works of art, surround the visitor, providing a sensitive and introspective experience.

The Paris Catacombs (fr. Catacombes de Paris) are a network of underground tunnels located in the site of ancient Roman quarries beneath Paris, which are part of an ancient system of tunnels extending over 800 hectares. Between the late 18th and mid-19th centuries, the remains of approximately 6 million people were brought here as part of efforts to eliminate overcrowded city cemeteries. The total area of the underground cemetery is 11,000 m². Today, the catacombs are part of the Carnavalet Museum, and part of their territory is open for visits. More than 500,000 people visit the catacombs annually.
