Education Recognized as a Key Factor in Longevity

The impact of education was most significant for women aged 20 to 49.

Education is one of the key factors in longevity. The study covers data from 13 countries in Southeastern Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa from 1980 to 2015. This is reported by Demographic Research.

The analysis showed that the difference in life expectancy between people with higher education and those without it exceeds ten years in certain regions. The impact of education was most significant for women aged 20 to 49: among educated participants in the study, the mortality rate was significantly lower.

Professor Arkadiusz Wisniewski noted that access to education increases knowledge about health, improves employment opportunities, and expands access to medical care, as well as influences life decisions.

The model developed by the researchers combined data from the UN, Eurostat, and medical centers. As a result, this allowed for reliable conclusions to be drawn in regions with imperfect birth and death registration systems. It turns out that educational institutions should be viewed not only as a source of personnel for the economy but also as a tool for public health.
