The Saeima on Thursday supported in the second reading the amendments to the Law on the Circulation of Weapons developed by the National Alliance, which provide for a ban on issuing firearm permits to Latvian citizens who are also citizens of Russia or Belarus, and create a legal basis for the annulment of already issued permits.
According to the National Alliance, the previous situation did not meet the interests of national and public security, as it allowed individuals with dual citizenship of Russia or Belarus to legally possess firearms in Latvia.
