On Thursday, the Saeima adopted amendments to the law on supporting the civilian population of Ukraine in its final reading, which provide for the publication of data on registered enterprises in Latvia that trade with Russia and Belarus.
With the adopted amendments, the parliamentarians supplemented the law with a new Article 24, establishing special regulations for the transfer and publication of information to promote transparency regarding the cooperation of Latvian enterprises with the mentioned countries.
According to the amendments, the State Revenue Service (SRS) will be required to prepare and submit data to the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) about commercial companies registered in Latvia that export or import goods to Russia and Belarus. In turn, the CSB will publish this data on its website quarterly.
The published information will include identification numbers and names of exporters and importers.
At the same time, the law establishes an exception stating that such transfer and publication of information will not be subject to the confidentiality restrictions established by the law on "Taxes and Duties."
The amendments were initiated by deputies of the New Unity party, but a similar initiative was previously proposed by the National Alliance.
