Recently, Edgars Rinkēvičs will celebrate three years in office as the head of state.
Yes, Edgars Rinkēvičs has been in the presidential position for three years, and sociologists from SKDS, commissioned by Latvian TV, conducted a survey to find out how Latvians assess the work of the head of state. In total, 53% of respondents rated Rinkēvičs' performance as very good or rather good.
19.1% of those surveyed rated Rinkēvičs as 'satisfactory', while 23.4% of Latvians believe that the president is performing very poorly or rather poorly.
Notably, Latvians who speak Latvian at home mostly assess Rinkēvičs' work positively. Specifically, 66% of Latvian-speaking respondents rated the president as 'rather good' or 'very good'. Among Russian-speaking respondents, only 32% had a positive attitude towards Rinkēvičs! 40% of those surveyed with Russian as their native language rated Rinkēvičs' performance negatively.
When looking at the survey results by age of respondents, young people perceive Rinkēvičs particularly positively: 82% of respondents aged 18 to 24 gave Rinkēvičs a positive rating. Interestingly, in the category of 45 to 54 years old, only 38% rated the head of state positively.
