The Latvian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian diplomat in connection with the spread of disinformation, the foreign policy agency reported.
The temporary chargé d'affaires of the Russian Federation was handed a "categorical protest against the public statement made on May 19, 2026, by the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, based on previously made false claims by Russia."
Russian special services stated that Latvia allows Ukraine not only to use its airspace for drone flights but also permits the use of its territory to strike Russia.
"During the conversation, the head of the Russian embassy was informed that, despite repeated messages from the Latvian side through diplomatic channels and in the public sphere stating that the Republic of Latvia had not consented to the use of its territory and airspace for attacks on facilities within the territory of the Russian Federation, the Russian side continues to spread false information and escalatory statements," the Latvian Foreign Ministry stated.
The Russian diplomat was also presented with an official note of protest.
Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže expressed a similar opinion during a speech alongside Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand at a Canadian military base near Riga.
"Russia has been spreading complete lies for several weeks about the Baltic states and Finland providing our airspace for Ukrainian attacks. This is untrue, and this was communicated directly to Russian representatives during their summons to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as through other sources. And today, a new lie was spread by the Russian foreign intelligence, which we, of course, rejected and completely disproved," Braže said.
