The Canine Center of the State Border Guard College of Latvia has welcomed new additions - on April 10, the Belgian shepherd Hera le Doue gave birth to eight puppies. This is reported by Grani.lv.
The newborn puppies have already become favorites among the staff and college cadets. The institution notes that the little ones are actively socializing and gradually getting acquainted with their future service environment.
As per the center's tradition, a competition was held among the staff to choose names for the puppies. A total of over 140 name options starting with the letter R were suggested, in accordance with the adopted system where all puppies from the same litter receive names that begin with the same letter of the alphabet.
In the end, the puppies were named: the boys - Rems and Rocky, the girls - Renda, Rada, Roxy, Resta, Reja, and Reina. The selection considered not only the sound but also the correspondence to the kennel's name "Robežas Sargs."
As noted by the publication, the puppies have already attracted the attention of the cadets. During their training, future border guards can participate in caring for the dogs and familiarize themselves with the work of the canine service, which helps them better understand the profession.
The college emphasizes that the task of the canine service is not only to raise dogs but also to prepare reliable service animals for the needs of the border guard. Specialists are engaged in selection, upbringing, and initial training to ensure that the dogs are resilient, balanced, and ready for service in the future.
