Latvia will allocate 10 million euros to support Ukraine as part of the NATO fund "Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List" (PURL), the government decided today.

As Prime Minister Evika Silina announced on social media, these funds from the Latvian budget will be used to purchase weapons and equipment for the defense of Ukraine. The purchases will be made from Latvia's strategic partner in the USA.

She also noted that Latvia's contribution is being made as part of previously planned funding amounting to 0.25% of the gross domestic product.

The Ministry of Defense explained to the LETA agency that the goal of the PURL initiative is to assist in the procurement and transfer of defense goods and services from the USA to Ukraine using donations from allies and partners. Under this initiative, European countries and Canada are providing funding for the acquisition of military products manufactured in the USA to ensure that the Ukrainian armed forces receive the necessary support.
