On June 27, 2026, the prophet Elisha, or more correctly, Elisha, is remembered. He was a prophet who for more than half a century warned humanity of problems and performed many astonishing deeds, including even raising the dead.

The biblical prophet Elisha, who is known in the Russian Orthodox tradition as Eliseus, was from the village of Abel Meholah, which was located near the Jordan River.
He met the prophet Elijah when he was quite young and was later called by him to prophecy. After that, for 65 years, under six consecutive kings of Israel – from Ahaz to Joash, he prophesied. Throughout his life, he not only predicted various events but also performed a tremendous number of miracles, healed the sick, and even raised the dead.
For instance, a woman who had shown him hospitality gave birth, although she had long been unable to do so, and then the prophet resurrected her deceased child. He saved armies trapped in the desert from destruction, fed the hungry, made previously undrinkable water suitable for drinking, and much, much more. He died in old age in Samaria.
Emperor Julian the Apostate hated him so much that he ordered his relics to be burned. But they were miraculously saved. A part of them was transferred to Alexandria.
