An orange-level warning about strong heat has been issued in Latvia for the coming days, reported the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

On Saturday afternoon, strong heat is expected in many places in Latvia. The air temperature will rise to +27, +30 degrees. Meanwhile, on Sunday and Monday, very strong heat is expected in many parts of the country. The air will warm up to +31, +35 degrees.

As stated in the warning, the heat creates an additional burden on the cardiovascular and respiratory systems.

During very high heat, a wide range of residents are at risk of health disturbances, but special caution should be exercised by elderly people, infants, and also representatives of other age groups suffering from chronic diseases.

In hot weather, it is necessary to consume more fluids than usual, ventilate rooms at night, and close curtains or blinds during the day.

It is not recommended to stay under direct sunlight for long periods, to avoid prolonged physical exertion, and to choose light, breathable, and light-colored clothing.

In hot weather, it is also important to take care of pets by providing them with fresh water.

During very high heat, more people than usual prefer to relax by the water, which increases the potential risk of accidents. A person who has overheated should not suddenly enter cold water. A sudden change in temperature can cause heart rhythm disturbances and sudden death.
