Writer Nora Ikstena Has Passed Away

On Sunday, January 4, at the age of 56, writer Nora Ikstena passed away after a serious illness, her relatives confirmed to Latvian Public Media.

The most famous literary work of Ikstena is the novel "Mother's Milk," published in 2015 in the series "We. Latvia, 20th Century." The writer authored seven novels and several collections of short stories, biographies, and essays.

Ikstena was awarded significant international and national prizes, including the Latvian Literary Prize of the Year and the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Culture. Her works have also been adapted for film and staged in theaters.

In 1992, Ikstena graduated from the Faculty of Latvian Philology at the University of Latvia, and from 1994 to 1995, she studied English language and literature at Columbia University in Missouri.

Nora Ikstena's works have been translated into English, German, French, Russian, Estonian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Danish, Swedish, Georgian, Hindi, and Italian.

The writer actively participated in shaping the state cultural policy.
