In the Jekabpils Region, ten facilities are planned to be adapted for shelter needs, which are located exclusively in the cities of Jekabpils and Viesīte, the regional municipality informed the LETA agency, writes LETA.

The municipality has signed an agreement with the Central Finance and Contracts Agency for the implementation of the project "Adaptation of Civil Protection Facilities in the Jekabpils Region for Category III Shelters." As part of the project implementation, renovation work will be carried out in the municipality buildings, and equipment will be purchased to ensure compliance with the functional requirements of third-category shelters. The work will take place at the following addresses: Mezha Street, 12; Jaunā Street, 44; Dumu Street, 1; Brīvības Street, 45; Brīvības Street, 2j; Rīgas Street, 212; Rīgas Street, 192; Jaunā Street, 39i, and Vecpilsētas laukums, 3 in Jekabpils. Outside of Jekabpils, the shelter will be located in Viesīte, at Pavasara Street, 6a.

The total eligible expenses for the project amount to 1,126,671 euros, including funding from the European Regional Development Fund — 389,410 euros, and co-financing from the Jekabpils Region municipality — 737,261 euros.
