The director of the Bauska Youth Sports School, Biruta Granitina, who had led the institution for nearly 40 years, has been suspended from her position, according to public media.
Now, the municipality has initiated an audit to verify the accuracy of the information received about possible violations in the educational institution. The municipal officials are not providing detailed comments until the audit is completed, but the suspended Granitina states that she performed her duties diligently.
The decision to suspend her was made by the Bauska municipality at the beginning of October. It was then decided to start the audit, which is promised to be completed by the end of the year.
"The grounds for conducting the audit actually existed during the previous period of cooperation, but they definitely increased after the tariffing for sports school teachers, which caused quite noticeable dissatisfaction, and questions also came from the supervising education department. This means that not everything appeared to be transparent, and signals were received from parents as well," said the executive director of the Bauska municipality, Ivars Romanovs.
Neither the municipality nor the suspended head of the sports school is ready to comment on what specific violations occurred and what reasons are indicated in the report until the audit is completed.
"The time will come, and I will speak, but I consider everything happening to be an insult to my dignity and an inadequate assessment of my work. And right now, I am determined not to leave this matter as it is. Let them decide - an audit is an audit. As a person, I worked very diligently and selflessly, and the new sports facilities were built during my time," explained Granitina.
Coaches contacted by Lsm.lv journalists noted that the decision came as a surprise. They acknowledge that they had not previously experienced problems in cooperation but have already provided their explanations to the municipality.
"At first, there was shock and confusion - what, why? Of course, it is now unknown what will happen and how it will happen; we will wait for the results and see," said football coach of the school, Arturs Kupciuns.
Parents interviewed also expressed confusion, noting that although the director has a strict character, there had been no serious conflicts previously.
