Why Do Zucchini Have Empty Flowers?

Zucchini is a low-calorie vegetable that can be found in most garden plots.

With proper care, one zucchini plant can yield up to 12 kilograms of harvest. However, various problems may arise during their cultivation.

One of the most common issues is the presence of a large number of empty flowers.

So why do zucchinis bloom with empty flowers?

Cross-pollination is an important process for the formation of the first fruits. Male flowers are unable to form a fruit ovary.

For this reason, they are called empty flowers. To identify an empty flower, simply pay attention to the lower part of the flower. Female buds show a thickening at the ovary, while large male buds typically grow on a thin peduncle.

You can also quickly determine the flower's sex by looking inside the petals: male buds have stamens, while female ones have a pistil.
