The Riga municipality has urged residents to stay home if possible on Thursday afternoon and avoid visiting parks, cemeteries, and recreational areas. Meteorologists forecast a strong thunderstorm, stormy winds, and possible large hail.

Riga authorities are warning residents about adverse weather conditions and recommending limiting outdoor activities during the thunderstorm front's passage.

According to meteorologists' forecasts, heavy rains, thunderstorms, and hail may hit the capital on Thursday. Dangerous gusts of wind that can break tree branches and damage urban infrastructure are also possible.

In this regard, the municipality particularly recommends avoiding parks, cemeteries, playgrounds, and recreational areas where there is an increased risk of falling trees or large branches. Residents are also asked to stay indoors if possible during the most intense bad weather.

Both municipal services and the State Fire and Rescue Service are preparing for the potential consequences of the thunderstorm. If necessary, specialists will clear areas of fallen trees, address damage to public transport contact networks, and monitor the situation in places where water levels may rise.

What is important to know: if the consequences of the bad weather pose a threat to human life, disrupt communications, or hinder public transport movement, it is essential to call the emergency number 112 immediately.

The municipality separately reminds residents of the procedure for actions in case of property damage. If a tree falls on private property, owners are advised to first document the damage with photographs and then attach them to the relevant application and notify the Department of City Development.

In cases where a tree or large branch falls on the territory of an apartment building, public institution, or another facility with a management company, residents should contact the manager directly.

The warning is related to the approach of an active cyclone, which will bring heavy precipitation and thunderstorm activity to Latvia on Thursday. According to meteorologists, the most challenging weather conditions are expected in the afternoon and evening.

Authorities urge residents to keep an eye on current forecasts and warnings and, if possible, postpone outdoor activities until the weather improves.
