The State Bureau of Construction Control (BVKB) conducted an inspection of the Meat Pavilion at the Riga Central Market on Wednesday. According to the chairman of the Riga City Council, Viesturs Kleinbergs, starting Thursday, June 11, the operation of the pavilion will be prohibited.

The Mayor of Riga has instructed the city's executive director to urgently assess the responsibility of the management of Rīgas nami — whether they acted as conscientious owners and whether the requirements of the BVKB were met in a timely manner.

Kleinbergs also intends to call on the head of the relevant committee and the vice-mayor of Riga responsible for municipal property, Edvards Ratnieks, to clarify the situation for the capital's residents.

Kleinbergs promised to personally monitor how the problem is being resolved and whether support is being provided to traders so they can continue their work as much as possible.

The BVKB confirmed to the LETA agency that the bureau conducted an inspection of the Meat Pavilion of the Riga Central Market and assessed the technical condition of the building. The results of the inspection are currently being finalized.

More detailed information about the BVKB's findings and decisions made will be provided by the bureau after all procedures are completed on Thursday, June 11.

The turnover of the company "Rīgas nami" in 2025 amounted to 28.42 million euros, which is 3.3% more than the previous year. At the same time, the enterprise ended 2025 with a profit of 94,000 euros.

It was previously reported that in 2026 the company plans to continue implementing the development concept of the Central Market, including organizing an architectural competition and the sequential implementation of market renewal projects to ensure the continuous operation of the market, the preservation of cultural and historical heritage, and the development of the area.
