Relevant: Will expelling citizens of the Russian Federation retain their Latvian pension?

In connection with the current issue of continuing the payment of Latvian pensions to citizens of the Russian Federation (RF) who are moving to permanent residence in Russia, the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA) has provided an official clarification.

According to the Agreement between the Republic of Latvia and the Russian Federation on cooperation in the field of social protection, which has been in effect since January 19, 2011, individuals who are granted a pension in Latvia, in the event of moving to permanent residence in Russia, will continue to receive their Latvian pension in accordance with the provisions of this agreement.

To continue receiving the Latvian pension after relocating, an individual must apply to the Pension and Social Insurance Fund of the Russian Federation for the transfer of their Latvian pension to Russia.

Upon receiving the relevant application from the Russian fund, the VSAA will transfer the designated pension amounts to this fund once a quarter. The Russian fund, in turn, is obliged to pay the pension to the individual residing in the territory of the Russian Federation.
