In the first half of the year, residents of Riga and Ukrainians received social benefits totaling 16.5 million euros

In Riga, 16.5 million euros were spent on social benefits in the first half of the year, which is slightly less than half of the funds allocated for these purposes this year, according to data from the Welfare Department of the Riga City Council.

3.43 million euros of this amount were allocated to support residents of Ukraine.

In total, 34.7 million euros are planned for social benefits in 2025, of which 26.2 million euros are for residents of Riga and 8.48 million euros for residents of Ukraine.

In the first half of 2025, social benefits were received by 23,164 people, including 19,474 residents of the capital and 3,690 citizens of Ukraine.

Compared to the first half of last year, the total number of social benefit recipients decreased by 2%, or 456 people, while the funding for social benefits decreased by 5%, or 835,000 euros.
