The meeting between the two celebrities took place in an atmosphere of mystery and flirtation.

In December 1995, the only meeting in history between two global celebrities — Princess Diana and John F. Kennedy Jr. — took place. According to People magazine, the 35-year-old politician arrived incognito at the Carlyle Hotel in New York for a conversation with the 34-year-old member of the British royal family.

His goal was to persuade her to be the cover face of the newly launched magazine George. To maintain confidentiality, he used a service entrance. In the lobby, he was greeted by Diana's personal secretary, Patrick Jephson, who escorted the guest to the princess's suite.

Over a cup of coffee, they had a conversation that Jephson later compared to 'a child's game of hide and seek,' describing the atmosphere as warm. Diana tactfully declined the offer, following her assistant's advice. The assistant believed that the photo would be too powerful a sign of approval for the young publication.

According to Jephson, there was a 'lightly flirtatious tone' in the dialogue between Diana and Kennedy Jr., which was characteristic of the princess's interactions with the opposite sex; however, Kennedy's status added a 'special sheen' to the rendezvous.

Prior to this, royal expert Tom Sykes stated that British intelligence services might have been involved in the death of Princess Diana. He noted that there are too many contradictions in the official version of the accident that occurred on August 31, 1997, in Paris.
