Chulpan Khamatova and Andrey Burkovsky perform in Boston: details
Actress Chulpan Khamatova is participating in a theater project in the USA after working in Latvia. In Boston, she stars alongside Andrey Burkovsky in the play "Delirium," directed by Igor Golyak and based on Eugène Ionesco's play "The Bald Soprano." Performances are taking place at the Calderwood Pavilion.
The production combines elements of absurdist comedy and drama. The plot centers around the dialogue of a married couple whose life is complicated by internal conflicts against the backdrop of an external crisis. According to audience feedback, the actors brought personal experiences related to relocation and working outside of Russia into the performance.
The project was developed by a team of Russian-speaking theater professionals, including composer Anna Drubich and director Igor Golyak. This is not the first collaboration between Khamatova and Burkovsky with the director: they previously participated in the productions "Our Class" and "The Dybbuk," which were also shown in the USA.
After moving from Russia in 2022, Khamatova worked at the New Riga Theatre, where she was involved in several performances. However, the collaboration with the theater was later terminated. The reasons for this decision were not publicly disclosed in detail.
It is also known that the actress participated in international theater projects, including the production by director Dmitry Krymov "Notes of a Madman," dedicated to the experiences of artists working abroad.
