Narcologist: champagne provokes severe intoxication and a heavy hangover.
Narcologist Andrei Tyurin warned champagne and fortified wine lovers about the double danger these drinks pose to health.
“Sparkling wines, including champagne, are dangerous due to the presence of carbon dioxide. The gas bubbles irritate the stomach lining, dilate blood vessels, and deliver alcohol into the bloodstream at an accelerated rate. Additionally, these drinks contain sugar and acids, which cause fermentation in the intestines and, consequently, severe intoxication and a heavy hangover,” explained the narcologist.
Dessert wines, such as port or vermouth, are dangerous due to their deceptive nature, the doctor added. According to him, the sweetness of these drinks masks the taste of alcohol. Because of this, a person can easily drink a bottle of fortified wine without even noticing that they have consumed a dose of ethanol equivalent to 150-200 grams of vodka. Furthermore, the sugar in the wine provokes sharp insulin spikes and significantly increases the load on the pancreas.
