Rumors about their relationship first surfaced in July when they were spotted having an intimate dinner in Montreal.
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and pop superstar Katy Perry may have given us a brief moment of levity: rumors of their date appear to be confirmed by photographs published this weekend.
We all need a little break from the oppressive headlines right now. While many dismiss the world of show business, it occasionally brings much-needed lightness to life. Just when we thought we had already met the most astonishingly improbable celebrity couple of 2025, it seems that title is now claimed by Justin Trudeau and Katy Perry.
Summer rumors of a romance between the 53-year-old former Prime Minister of Canada and the 40-year-old performer of "I Kissed A Girl" seem to have been confirmed.
Photographs of the couple were published this weekend showing them embracing on a yacht off the coast of Santa Barbara, California.

In July, Perry announced her breakup with actor Orlando Bloom, known for his roles in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "The Lord of the Rings" films. They never married, but they have a five-year-old daughter.
Trudeau stepped down as Prime Minister in March, and two years ago announced that he and his wife Sophie Grégoire had separated after 18 years of marriage. They have three children together.
Although Trudeau and Perry have not publicly confirmed their relationship, their photographs have sparked a flurry of reactions online.
Rumors about Trudeau and Perry first surfaced in July when they were spotted having an intimate dinner in Montreal. Later, Trudeau appeared during Perry's "Lifetimes" tour in Canada.
Perry released her seventh album "143" in September 2024 amid a controversial collaboration with producer Dr. Luke, who has been involved in a lengthy legal battle with singer Kesha, who accused him of rape. The album's first single, "Woman's World," was criticized online, with Euronews Culture calling it a "pseudo-anthem of empowerment, whose pseudo-feminist pandering strikes every regressive note in the book."
In a review of the album, critics wrote: "Everything feels forced, overripe, and completely out of touch. Not that there isn't room in 2024 for simple nostalgic references or some straightforward bubblegum pop. (...) However, Perry's efforts are immature and, importantly, not fun. Definitely not with this collection of mediocre electro-pop trinkets that sound like a tasteless soundtrack for a dating show like 'Love Island,' is she going to convince her fans to temporarily set aside Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Dua Lipa to return to the KatyCat corner."
Earlier this year, Perry also faced criticism for participating in a sensational space flight, which we called a "crass publicity stunt" and a "ridiculously expensive, environmentally harmful, and tone-deaf photo op masquerading as happy-clappy activism." Read more about it here.
Nevertheless, it seems her year is on the upswing, and she and Trudeau could potentially become the most unexpected couple of the year. Let's see what the end of the year brings... For now, at least, this couple has temporarily distracted us from undoubtedly important matters. And that's wonderful if it happens from time to time.
