Entomologist Shares Tips for Tick Control in the Garden

Entomologist Svetlana Yashkova offered tips for cleaning the area of ticks.

To reduce the number of ticks in the garden, the specialist recommends tidying up: removing fallen branches, cutting down unnecessary shrubs, and mowing the grass. It is also necessary to eliminate plant debris and last year's leaves that attract ticks.

Throughout the gardening season, it is important to regularly mow the grass, and in spring and autumn, it is advisable to carry out deratization, that is, control of rodent-like animals that are the main food source for ticks.

“It is recommended that gardens and vegetable plots be fenced so that wild animals, such as hares and foxes, cannot visit these areas, as they can also bring ticks,” noted Svetlana Yashkova.

One of the most effective ways to combat Ixodes ticks in anthropogenic areas is the use of acaricide preparations.
