Tips from experienced summer cottage owners.
Black Currant Buds
The buds and leaves of black currant are a valuable source of biologically active substances, particularly flavonoids, which exceed the antioxidant effect of vitamin E, taken as a standard, by 50 times. However, it is not recommended to collect many buds from one bush, as this can weaken the plant and reduce the berry yield. Usually, a few old branches are left for spring bud collection, which are cut in spring to obtain this valuable raw material.
Viburnum Flowers
Viburnum flowers are collected at the beginning of flowering. They are used to make tea, decoctions, or infusions, which help improve appetite and have diaphoretic, hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, mild diuretic, and calming effects. In winter, the flower clusters are dried in the shade under a canopy or in dryers, storing them in a dry and cool place.
Viburnum flowers are also used to make tea, infusions, and decoctions that help improve digestion and are used for gastritis, as well as for their expectorant and diaphoretic properties.
Rhubarb
Rhubarb is rich in beneficial substances. It is believed to contain more iron and magnesium than apples. Rhubarb is used to make decoctions, tinctures, compotes, jams, juices, and jellies, and is also used as a filling for pies.
For medicinal purposes, Tangut rhubarb is most often grown, the roots and rhizomes of which have healing properties. More details: Health Benefits of Rhubarb
