The horrific crime in Daugavpils has shocked Latvia: two men, while under the influence of alcohol, beat a passerby and then inflicted over a hundred stab wounds on him in a city park, reports tv3.lv.
On May 13, the South Latgale Prosecutor's Office submitted a criminal case to the Latgale District Court regarding a brutal murder committed by a group of individuals with particular cruelty in Daugavpils. According to the investigation, two accused men met a third man near one of the commercial establishments in Daugavpils, where a conflict arose. During the quarrel, the attackers, being under the influence of alcohol and acting out of personal animosity and anger, began to beat the victim with their hands and feet, striking him in the head and body. The man fell to the ground from the blows.
At some point, the victim managed to take advantage of the attackers' distraction. He got up and ran into a store, where he asked the employees for help.
However, the investigation believes that the accused waited for the man to exit the store before grabbing him and taking him to a nearby park. On the way, they continued to beat the victim.
According to the prosecutor's materials, in the park, the men, acting together and with particular cruelty, attacked him with knives they had brought with them. The victim sustained at least 106 stab wounds, 73 of which were to the chest and abdomen.
The man died at the scene from his injuries.
