The White House is seriously concerned about Cuba's purchase of a large batch of combat drones. U.S. authorities fear that Havana may use this weaponry to attack U.S. military facilities, ships, and American territory.
The Cuban government has acquired over 300 military drones. According to estimates by American analysts, the Cuban side may use these drones for potential attacks on American military bases located on the island, as well as on military ships at sea and even on the mainland United States, including the southern part of Florida. This was reported by Axios, citing its own sources.
According to journalists, the presence of such an impressive arsenal of drones in the Cuban regime raises deep concern in the U.S. administration. The seriousness of these concerns is explained by the fact that Washington has already faced severe consequences from the use of strike drones in other regions of the world, particularly from Iran. The emergence of such technologies in close proximity to American borders poses a new dangerous challenge for the White House in terms of security.
This information comes at a time when the U.S. is trying to resolve relations with Havana through diplomatic means. Previously, CIA Director Redcliffe made an official visit to the Cuban capital. According to the press, the head of American intelligence conveyed to the Cuban authorities a proposal for normalizing bilateral relations.
The main condition from Washington is the complete cessation of military cooperation between Cuba and Russia and China. In particular, the American side insists on the dismantling of all intelligence infrastructure from these states deployed on the island. The situation surrounding the purchase of drones only adds tension to this complex geopolitical knot.
