U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is considering the possibility of transferring some American troops from Germany to Poland. Amid disagreements between Washington and Berlin, the issue of U.S. military presence in Europe has once again come to the forefront.

U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that some of the American contingent stationed in Germany may be transferred to Poland.

In response to questions from journalists, Trump emphasized that the U.S. has "great relations" with Poland and Polish President Karol Nawrocki. According to him, such an option is "possible."

Against the backdrop of these statements, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth ordered the withdrawal of about 5,000 American servicemen from Germany within a year.

Previously, Trump had already spoken about the potential reduction of the American presence in Germany following disagreements with Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Additional tension arose due to Berlin's criticism of the U.S. and Israel's military operation against Iran.

According to DW, the White House has also abandoned the idea of deploying a battalion of Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers in Germany.

For Europe, this means a possible redistribution of the American military presence closer to NATO's eastern flank. Poland and the Baltic states have been advocating for an increased U.S. presence in the region for several years.

Currently, Germany remains the largest hub of American forces in Europe. According to the Pentagon, at the end of 2025, there were about 36,400 American servicemen stationed there out of approximately 68,000 deployed at U.S. bases in Europe.

American military facilities are primarily located in the south and southwest of Germany. The U.S. utilizes about 20 bases and facilities in the country.

Poland has already expressed its readiness to accept additional forces. President Karol Nawrocki stated in early May during a visit to Lithuania that the country has the necessary infrastructure to accommodate American troops.

Lithuania has also expressed its readiness to accept additional U.S. units. Currently, there are more than 1,000 American servicemen there, while Poland hosts about 10,000.

The issue of troop redistribution is still under discussion, but the topic itself indicates that the military map of Europe may change once again.
