The municipality wants to free the area and turn it into a parking lot.

In Jelgava, owners have been urged to dismantle 36 garages that were illegally installed on municipal land on Garozas Street by July 1. Notifications have already been posted on-site.

If there are valid reasons not to demolish the garages, this must be communicated to the municipality by June 1.

Authorities explain that the structures degrade the urban environment, which is why they plan to remove them. After that, the area will be improved and covered with gravel — it is intended to be used as a parking lot.

This concerns an intra-block area where the garages are currently standing without permission.
