What flooring is best for sound insulation?

Tips from architect Anton Kochurkin.

- Sound insulation in a room depends on the number of holes and gaps in the floor. For example, parquet flooring has gaps, which makes sound insulation practically ineffective.

Monolithic coverings, such as poured floors, provide better sound insulation since the liquid fills all the holes. Linoleum can also help, although avoiding gaps, especially along the walls, will be difficult.

Soft linoleum absorbs sound better. In general, with soft flooring, the noise level is lower than with hard flooring, as hard surfaces reflect sound while soft ones absorb it. Therefore, carpet or plush materials provide the best sound insulation.

The optimal option would be to lay a rug or mat on a poured floor.
