In the Sarkandaugava neighborhood in recent weeks, a BMW driver has been regularly drifting at the intersection of Alžuju and Aptekas streets.

In response to complaints from local residents, he stated that they would have to accept it — the skids and tire screeches would continue, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

Residents of Sarkandaugava have captured the main troublemaker in the area recently. Under the windows of the houses, one can regularly see a drifting enthusiast behind the wheel of a BMW demonstrating his skills, leaving "doughnuts" on the asphalt. Most residents of the neighboring houses cannot stand it, although opinions are divided.

"It bothers me. I want to sit at home in peace and quiet, and here’s some guy drifting," said a local resident.

Another woman noted that the driver behaves like this about once a day.

Residents recount that they once even heard a tire explode during the drifting session. In populated areas like this, where there is quite intense traffic, a flow of people, and even a kindergarten, organizing such races is not the most reasonable decision, according to expert Edmunds Ozolnieks. He adds that one can manage without incidents a hundred times, but it only takes one case for everything to end in tragedy and regret.

"It is obvious that this should not be done in a residential area where people walk," said Ozolnieks.

He notes that drifting enthusiasts in Latvia usually seek special closed venues for such entertainment. However, it seems that this BMW driver has no intention of doing so. The driver himself or someone posing as him posted a message on Facebook to the residents of Alžuju Street, stating that he is "serious and here to stay" in Sarkandaugava.

When the driver has been spinning and drawing circles on the asphalt for weeks, the question arises — does he even understand where he is doing this? Perhaps intentionally, or perhaps accidentally, but he was having his fun right under the police's windows. The Northern District Police Department of the State Police is located just 120 meters from this spot.

The show "Degpunktā" went to find out whether the police officers in Sarkandaugava really had not seen or heard the aggressive driver from their windows, and received a response.

Law enforcement officials reported that they had not received any complaints from local residents regarding the drifting BMW. As for the police station's windows, the officers explained that there are corridors where no one is constantly present. Workers leave for home at five o'clock in the evening, so they do not have the opportunity to regularly observe the BMW driver.

The police have a video recording taken by residents of the area, which shows the BMW's license plate. It is expected that the police will review the footage and will be more attentive to what is happening on their own street.
