Mazzarella was arrested at a luxury villa on the Amalfi coast, where he planned to spend Easter with his wife and two children. The mafia boss used fictitious names when registering at the resort, reports Rai News.
During a search of the villa, police discovered about 20,000 euros in cash, fake documents, and several phones. The arrest was made by the carabinieri of the investigative unit of the Naples Provincial Command in coordination with the Neapolitan Anti-Mafia Directorate. The operation also involved an air squadron and patrol boats.
Roberto Mazzarella was wanted for a crime committed in the 2000s: a shooting in San Giovanni a Teduccio. An arrest warrant for him was issued on January 28, 2025, but he managed to evade capture at that time.
Roberto is the son of Salvatore Mazzarella, who had a long criminal history. The family clan began to actively operate in the 1960s in cigarette smuggling and effectively controlled several neighborhoods in Naples.
Mazzarella's arrest has become one of the most high-profile arrests of a mafia boss in recent years in Italy.
