A high-level U.S. military delegation has been sent to Kyiv, led by Assistant Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll, reports the Wall Street Journal, citing LETA referring to the BBC.

According to the publication, Driscoll, a civilian, U.S. Army Chief of Staff General Randy George, and Commander of U.S. Forces in Europe General Chris Donahue boarded a night train to Ukraine in Poland on Tuesday. The newspaper notes that the delegation will discuss "ideas for ending the war," the situation at the front, and arms production in Ukraine, and will report the results of the visit to U.S. President Donald Trump.

The idea to send Driscoll to Kyiv arose during a conversation between Trump and Vice President James David Vance, writes the Wall Street Journal. Vance and Driscoll studied together at Yale University. Instructions to Driscoll were also given by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff.

"The White House's decision to reach out to Driscoll and the senior army command was partly driven by the belief that Moscow might be more open to negotiations mediated by military officials, as well as disappointment in previous unsuccessful attempts," notes the Wall Street Journal.
