Apple has developed a foldable smartphone in the clamshell form factor. This is reported by Bloomberg.

According to reputable insider Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release several models of foldable iPhones. As previously reported, at the end of 2026, the company will introduce a phone in the book form factor. The next device, according to Gurman, will be a clamshell phone.

The specialist described the new device as a "square foldable phone." From the disclosed information, it appears that the new iPhone may not make it to the market. However, Apple is confident that the first foldable device will be successful enough to "create real demand in this category." The insider concluded that the book design is a priority for Apple and a similar iPhone will be released in the fall of 2026.

Journalists from the specialized publication 9to5Mac stated that the future smartphone will compete with devices from the Galaxy Z Flip series of the market leader in foldable smartphones, Samsung. The media authors welcomed the fact that, in addition to an expensive foldable device, Apple will create a more compact and affordable gadget. They reminded that the planned foldable iPhone for the fall will feature an internal screen of 7.8 inches and an external 5.5-inch display.

In December, reputable insider Ming-Chi Kuo stated that Apple's foldable smartphone will be a scarce item in the first months after its announcement. According to the specialist, the device will definitely be introduced at the end of 2026, but it will not go on sale until 2027.
