At the CES 2026 exhibition, an unusual novelty was presented – sunglasses with electronic tinting that allow users to change the darkness level of the lenses in just seconds. This was noted by Interesting Engineering.
The novelty is called Povec C1 and is positioned as the world's first electrochromic glasses designed for everyday use.
Unlike regular glasses with photochromic lenses that darken automatically in sunlight, here the user controls the tinting themselves. To do this, it is enough to swipe a finger across the touch panel on the temple of the glasses.
The glasses use electrochromic technology – the same used, for example, in cars with automatically dimming mirrors. When voltage is applied, the lenses become darker, and when it is removed, they lighten. The switching occurs quickly and smoothly, without delays.
According to the developers, such glasses will be especially useful for athletes and active individuals – cyclists, runners, and tourists who often have to transition from bright light to shade and back. Instead of changing glasses or squinting, one can simply adjust the tinting manually.
Additionally, the glasses protect the eyes from ultraviolet light, have a lightweight and durable frame, and the built-in battery lasts for about a month of use. They are charged via USB-C.
The company plans to start sales in 2026. The price has not yet been finalized, but it is expected to be in the range of $250–350.
