The President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andriy Shevchenko spoke out after the national team's defeat to Sweden (1:3) in the semi-final match of the playoff qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
"I want to thank the fans for their support of the Ukrainian national team. We are dissatisfied with the result, as the goal for the cycle has not been achieved. Now the team needs to play the second match with dignity, to show character and strength of spirit. After the match with Albania, we will conduct a full analysis of the qualifying cycle, talk to the head coach, and make a decision in favor of the future national team," said Shevchenko, according to the UAF press service.
The 2026 World Cup will take place next summer in three countries — the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The current world champion is the Argentina national team.
