The match between arch-rivals Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague descended into chaos when hundreds of home fans stormed the field in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Slavia Prague was leading 3–2 and, according to reports, was just seconds away from prematurely securing the championship title when the stands of Eden Stadium "exploded."
A sudden attack by fans, many of whom were waving smoke bombs, filled the stadium with thick pyrotechnic fog, and the situation escalated into chaos.
Referee Karel Roček had no choice but to stop the match, and then ultimately abandon it when the field turned into a war zone.
The chairman of the board of directors of Slavia, Jaroslav Tvrdík, apologized for the behavior of the fans and acknowledged that the club could face a technical defeat. He stated, "We cannot seek any excuses for ourselves. Our fans ran onto the field and interrupted the match before its conclusion. I think the decision to stop the match was the right one. We can only apologize."
It is expected that Slavia will be awarded a technical defeat with a score of 0–3, and Sparta will be declared the winner. In this case, Sparta's deficit from the leader will be reduced to five points with three rounds remaining in the championship.
