Latvia's top player Alena Ostapenko has retained her 24th place in the updated Women's Tennis Association (WTA) singles rankings, reports LETA.
This week, Ostapenko will begin her participation in the Australian Open, where she was eliminated in the first round last year, so she has only ten ranking points to defend.
On Monday, Daria Semenistaya made her debut in the main draw of the Australian Open, having dropped two positions to 96th place before the tournament. If she loses in the first round, she will exit the top 100 of the rankings unless she earns points in upcoming tournaments.
Meanwhile, Anastasija Sevastova lost one position and is ranked 186th. Adelina Lachinova and Kamilla Bartone dropped five spots and are now ranked 572nd and 622nd, respectively. Beatrice Zeltiņa moved up three places (648th), while Diana Marcinkevica, Elza Tomase, and Sabine Rutlauka lost three (813th), one (938th), and six (1068th) positions, respectively. Daniela Darta Feldmane retained her position (1286th), while Margarita Ignatjeva dropped three spots (1490th).
The leader of the rankings remains Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, followed by Polish player Iga Swiatek. Next are Americans Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova, with Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina in fifth place and American Jessica Pegula in sixth. Russian Mira Andrejeva moved up one position to seventh, surpassing Italian Jasmine Paolini. Rounding out the top ten are American Madison Keys and Swiss Belinda Bencic.
In the WTA doubles rankings, Ostapenko retains her fifth position, and Daria Semenistaya also holds her position (185th). The next six Latvian tennis players lost positions: Sevastova — three (508th), Bartone — five (560th), Tomase — four (595th), Marcinkevica — six (668th), Zeltiņa — five (831st), Ignatjeva — two (874th). Lachinova, on the other hand, rose 58 positions to 918th place. There are also five more Latvian tennis players ranked outside the top thousand.
The leader of the doubles rankings remains Czech player Katerina Siniakova.
