The New York Knicks basketball team became NBA champions, winning the title for the third time in their history.

In the fifth game of the finals series, the New York basketball team defeated the San Antonio Spurs on the road with a score of 94:90 (13:23, 24:19, 28:30, 29:18) and won the series four games to one — 4:1. Previously, the Knicks were champions in 1970 and 1973.

The Most Valuable Player of the finals series was Jalen Brunson, who scored 45 points. The second highest scorer for the winners was Mikal Bridges with 14 points, while Josh Hart recorded 13 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Spurs, the highest scorer was reserve player Dylan Harper, who scored 25 points, while Victor Wembanyama contributed 19 points and 14 rebounds.

For most of the game, the New Yorkers were in catch-up mode and were down by 16 points in the first half. However, in the second half of the final quarter, the Knicks managed to turn the game around, took the lead, and did not relinquish their advantage.

For Knicks head coach Mike Brown, this championship title is his fifth in the NBA. However, he won the previous four as an assistant coach with the San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors.

The Spurs are led by former VEF Riga player Mitch Johnson, for whom this was the first opportunity to compete for a championship title.

The Spurs have not played in the NBA finals since 2014, when they last became champions, while the Knicks last competed for the title in 1999.

It was with the Knicks that Kristaps Porzingis began his NBA career.
