Премьер-министр Латвии Эвика Силиня

Evika Silinā is "asking" for the position of Minister of Defense. But she is not particularly supported even by her own party.

Evika Silinā this week already sent a "signal" to her likely successor for the position of Prime Minister, Andris Kulbergs, expressing her readiness to take on some ministerial post in his government. She implied, just call and I will come... But the invitation did not follow. And today, the retired Prime Minister openly stated her desire to hold the position of Minister of Defense in the new government. It is noteworthy that Silinā currently holds this position of Minister of Defense, so to speak, in conjunction with her premiership.

Political scientist Philipp Raevskiy was quick to positively assess Silinā's desire to continue leading the defense ministry on the social network X:

"This will be completely normal. Evika Silinā is already performing the duties of Minister of Defense today. She will not need time to ramp up; she is also a candidate for Prime Minister."

It is worth noting that "New Unity" officially "did not manage" to nominate Silinā as a candidate for Prime Minister, and now the leadership of the "Unity" party is looking for a replacement for her. For this reason, "Unity" did not even "hint" in its conversation with Kulbergs about the possibility of appointing Silinā as Minister of Defense. Moreover, the newly formed ruling coalition already has two candidates for this position - Ināra Mūrniece (National Alliance) and Raimonds Bergmanis (United List). Tomorrow evening or Monday morning, it will be known who among these two candidates will be entrusted with this very important position! Well, Silinā has almost no chance of "getting into" Kulbergs' government.
