Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed concern regarding Russia's harsh statements about airspace violations in the Baltic states. He stated this in a conversation with journalists after the NATO ministerial meeting in Sweden.

The head of the State Department stated that this situation raises concerns due to the risks of potential escalation.

"I mean, there are always concerns about escalation, aren’t there? It’s always concerning. We understand that these countries (Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia – ed.) feel threatened – for obvious reasons. So that is concerning because there are always fears that something like this could escalate into something more serious," Rubio responded.

The American official emphasized that Washington is closely monitoring the developments.

"We are watching the developments. But the main answer to your question is: we are concerned about this because we do not want it to lead to a broader conflict that could really lead to something much worse," noted the U.S. Secretary of State.

As reported by bb.lv, the military-political leadership of Latvia has repeatedly denied any preparations for a strike from the territory of Latvia against the territory of the Russian Federation.

In Moscow, it seems, there is a different opinion on this matter. Earlier this week, they claimed that Ukrainian drone operators had allegedly already arrived in Latvia and were waiting for orders to strike Russia. Moscow did not miss the opportunity to threaten Riga with "just retribution": "The coordinates of decision-making centers in Latvia are known."
