There will be no more 'helicopter money' like during COVID and after the geopolitical upheavals of 2022.
As far as can be understood, the ruling politicians agreed at the coalition council to expand the circle of households that can qualify for housing benefits. "This is quite an elegant solution!" said the head of the parliamentary faction of the Union of Greens and Farmers, Harijs Ropkelis. Apparently, they will simply raise the threshold for minimum incomes at which households can qualify for housing benefits.
"A larger number of households will also be able to qualify for these benefits. That was the goal, so that around several thousand people could apply for them if they feel it is necessary. This is not 'helicopter money,' as we call it. But this is targeted support," said Prime Minister Evika Silina to TV-3.
The specific solution that will be proposed will be known by Wednesday - the project is planned to be approved at an extraordinary government meeting.
