Latvia is ready to support the diversification of Turkmenistan's economy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) informed the LETA agency.

On Thursday, Latvia's Ambassador Girts Jaundzems presented his credentials to the Chairperson of the Parliament of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, during a ceremonial event.

Jaundzems expressed his readiness to promote the development of economic cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the fields of transport and logistics, pharmaceuticals, green technologies, and information technology.

The ambassador confirmed Latvia's willingness to assist Turkmenistan in diversifying its economy, as well as in certification and standardization to facilitate Turkmenistan's exports to the EU.

Both Gulmanova and Jaundzems highly appreciated the bilateral cooperation and mutual support in UN resolutions and voting, and confirmed their interest in continuing joint cooperation projects between the EU and Central Asian countries. Gulmanova expressed interest in inter-parliamentary cooperation, especially with Latvian parliamentarians.

During the accreditation visit, the ambassador also held meetings with ministers and deputy ministers from various sectors of Turkmenistan to discuss mutual economic and trade relations and opportunities for their activation, as well as cooperation on various projects.

Jaundzems succeeded Rainis Troksha, who had been acting as ambassador to Turkmenistan since December 2022. The Latvian ambassador to Turkmenistan resides in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
